It’s impossible to say exactly when lotus flowers became the soul of Dong Thap, but today they are inseparable from the province’s identity. As soon as you set foot here, you’ll be greeted by endless lotus fields, their soft pink blooms filling the air with peace and beauty.
Arriving via the national highway toward Cao Lanh City, visitors are welcomed by a large sign that proudly reads: “The Land of Pink Lotus – Dong Thap warmly welcomes you.” At the city’s central roundabout, the cheerful statue of Bé Sen (Little Lotus Girl) offers a warm greeting to travelers after their long journey.
In the heart of Cao Lanh, many major streets are decorated with lotus flowers, their vivid colors lining the sidewalks. The main road to the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee headquarters and the road to Cao Lanh Ferry are so filled with blooms they’ve earned the nickname “Lotus Streets.”
Another highlight is Van Mieu Park (Van Thanh Temple) in Ward 1. Built to honor Confucian traditions and inspire lifelong learning, the park is home to Khổng Tử Lake, a serene 3-hectare lake named after Confucius. The park also regularly hosts exhibitions and cultural events centered on the lotus flower.
In Dong Thap Muoi, lotus isn’t just admired—it’s eaten. The seeds, though small, are naturally sweet, nutty, and packed with nutrients. In fact, nearly every part of the lotus—seeds, flowers, roots, and leaves—is used in local cuisine.
Visitors can sample lotus seed porridge, lotus tea, and traditional Mekong-style dishes infused with the plant’s natural flavors. Each bite is a celebration of both nature and culture.
Travelers can immerse themselves in local life by rowing through lotus fields, harvesting seeds and flowers, fishing, and taking photos amid endless pink blooms. Just as memorable as the scenery are the warm, welcoming people of the Mekong Delta, who make the experience truly authentic.
Located in My Hoa Commune, Thap Muoi District, the Thap Muoi Lotus Tourist Area is a top attraction. Here, visitors can enjoy fresh air, wide-open lotus ponds, and the tranquil beauty of Vietnam’s most iconic flower. It’s the perfect spot to connect with nature, culture, and the spirit of the Mekong.
